Navigating Foxton Locks

Getting Here

Foxton is on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal.

It is between one and two days' cruise from Norton Junction, near Braunston, where the Leicester Line leaves the Grand Union main line. There are seven locks (at Watford) and two major tunnels on the way.

Approaching from the north, there are 24 locks in the 18 miles from Leicester.

The five-mile, lock-free Market Harborough Arm leaves at the bottom of Foxton Locks. This offers a pleasant rural cruise to the town's regenerated canal basin.

Both the Foxton and Watford lock flights are 7ft wide, so access from the south is limited to narrowboats and narrowbeam cruisers. Wider boats can reach Foxton from the north through Leicester.
