British Waterways is continuously striving to provide access for all people, balanced against the major historical importance of the landscape and the naturally sloping site.
Visitors to Foxton Locks should be aware that the site sits on a naturally steep slope. However, we welcome disabled people including visitors with mobility impairments and the following advice should prove helpful to you.
Useful information
- Blue Badge parking situated at both the top and bottom lock car parks. There is also some accessible parking next to the path leading to the Museum and middle locks. Please ensure badge displayed.
- Over 3km of paths in and around the site have been resurfaced, so that over three quarters of them are now fully accessible to most visitors. We cannot say that all visitors can get to every part of Foxton Locks but with some planning we feel confident that every visitor will have a rewarding visit
- The paths and car parking was designed to enable some people to park close to paths to have easy access to key places at Foxton Locks.
- Frequent seating is provided which also act as leaning posts around Foxton Locks and particularly to take advantage of some magnificent views of the historic locks and wider countryside.
- The Foxton Locks Inn is designed with wheelchair users in mind and has adapted unisex toilet facilities
- Museum: The museum is level throughout, and advice is taken on all new displays.
- British Waterways believes that through its access improvements all visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy the historic heritage, natural beauty and amenities at Foxton Locks.
